Workforce Housing Facts

What kind of apartments do you have?
We have efficiencies and one, two, and three bedroom apartments in three low-rise apartment buildings conveniently located in Takoma Park, MD and the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC.

What are the requirements to live in these buildings?
All adults in your household must have an approved criminal background check, credit check, and rental history. Some of the apartments are also income-restricted. To live in these, your household must be low-income as defined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Fair Housing Logo.Victory Housing is an equal housing opportunity provider. Our apartments are open to persons of every race, creed, color, and nationality.

What does "low-income" mean?
The government sets income requirements each year based on the typical family's income in the DC Metro area, with adjustments for the size of the family. This is called Area Median Income, or AMI. In these buildings, apartments are either set aside for households earning less than 50% of AMI, less than 60% of AMI, or anyone can rent them. AMI changes a little every year, so be sure to ask what the newest income limits are if you are thinking about applying. For 2011, the income limits are:

HOUSEHOLD SIZE
  12345678
50% of AMI$37,150$42,450$47,750$53,050$57,300$61,550$65,800$70,050
60% of AMI$44,600$50,950$57,300$63,650$68,750$73,850$78,950$84,050

How much is rent?
It depends. Rent is based on the number of bedrooms and whether there is an income limit. Contact the individual properties for information about rents and available units. The contact information can be found here.

Can I use my Section 8 voucher?
Yes, we are happy to accept Section 8 and other rent subsidy vouchers at these properties. You must meet all requirements associated with the voucher in addition to our application requirements.

Do you have laundry facilities? Parking? What other amenities?
All three of our workforce housing communities have laundry rooms. The two properties in Takoma Park offer free off-street parking and share a computer room with free internet access. The Columbia Heights property is just blocks from a Metro station, and all three communities are served by multiple public bus lines, so they have easy access to the jobs and amenities in the surrounding neighborhoods and downtown Washington, DC.

This sounds great! How can I get one of the apartments?
Each community handles its own leasing, so you should contact the properties directly to apply for a unit. The contact information can be found here.
